Floods in the Atacama desert
Why are they happening?
Floods are considered as a random phenomenon. Floods in the Atacama desert especially bewilder scientists because this desert is known to be the driest place on Earth.
The possible explanation of all the anomalous heavy rain/floods in our history is the Large-Scale Movements of Ungulates (LSMU) which tplace three weeks prior to that rainfall. How can one relate weather events to animal behaviour?
Before the appearance of the first animals, there was no rain in the interiors of continent(s). The surface of Earth farther from the shores was very dry and red like on the surface of Mars. Around 232 mln years ago, Nature seems to have hacked atmosphere processes to spread suitable conditions farther to the interior of land.
How exactly Nature found out about the ways to influence the atmospheric processes is not clear. The hypothesis is that fungi, one of the oldest species on Earth, probably have been coevolved with the environment to influence the weather. How can we be sure that there is an invisible mechanism to control the local weather? We are not sure at all, but time and time again we observe that heavy rainfall occurs in three weeks after LSMU.
The Gaia theory states that life-forms on Earth are coevolved with the environment to bring the best conditions for life to thrive.
Since The Carnian Pluvial Period happened 232 mln years ago, Nature seems to have been selecting the best animals to spread fungi with the microbiome on Earth surface. Now we see wild ungulates like wildebeest in African savannas, saiga in Eurasian steppes, and their migration instincts might have been evolved to bring monsoons.
The large-scale movements of Guanaco and other ungulates of Chile can be the cause of floods in the Atacama desert. It could happen after the opening of hunting season or illegal hunting. Large-scale movement of livestock can be the cause too.
How can we track these movements to predict and avoid floods?
