A choral work
On being in sync
When I lived in Brussels I used to go to a chorus to see what it feels like to sing together with people even though I didn’t know how to sing and didn’t have any musical education whatsoever.
They were too kind to accept me as a member. Sometimes, I hit the right notes. Sometimes I felt eyes staring at me expecting to increase or decrease my pitch or something that I should have done but I didn’t know what.
Of course, it was difficult for me to “read” the conductor’s “hints”. I felt that I made the work of the conductor much more difficult so I decided to take extra hours with one of the members to improve, to be a useful part of the chorus.
Being in sync is a good feeling, we need more of this in this world. Luckily, we have good songs to sing together and conductors to lead us.
Hopefully, we get our part of the concert right.
